Despite parts of the region having heavy rainfall over the weekend, firefighters are continuing to battle the blaze on Llantysilio Mountain in Denbighshire.
Three engines and crews remained at the mountain on Monday morning which monitored and tackled particular hotspots.
A spokesperson said despite Sunday’s heavy rain elsewhere, there was not enough rain on the mountain to help firefighters’ efforts, with water running off the ground because it was so dry.
On Saturday evening family-run Ponderosa cafe were advised to close for the weekend, due to the thick black smoke. However, they were able to re-open on the following Monday.
With the strong gusts of wind, this is causing a fanning action on the smoldering mountain, causing the deep peat to re-alight.
National Resources Wales say that it could take decades for the land to recover fully.
